STANDARD SPECIFICATION

The lantern roof is constructed of an aluminum ridge, rafters and eaves beams.  The ridge, eaves beams and boss (hip) covers are clad with PVC-u internally and externally, creating a thermal barrier throughout.  The exterior is clad with an additional external layer of Duracron painted heavy gauge aluminum. (Octagons -excluding stretched octagons- and Square Lanterns have a PVC-u external boss (hip) cover only). Internally the eaves beam is covered by a decorative PVC-u molding.

Ridge cresting, finials and exterior rafter caps are of cast aluminum with a compression gasket and integrated weep channel to the eave. Roof rafters create a two inch glass overhang with no gutters.

If ordered, pre-glazed side frames are multi-cell steel-reinforced PVC-u with aluminum corner posts clad with PVC-u.  Side frames are glazed (stops) internally with weep holes to the exterior. Opening windows or roof vents are optional on larger sizes. Opening side windows are externally glazed.

All lanterns are supplied with curb setting out dimensions for pre-approval. Drawings recommend a 1 - 2 inch drip edge at the sill and a minimum curb height of 6 - 8 inches above highest adjacent roof surface in snow zones.

GLASS

Standard roof and side glass is tempered/tempered one inch overall thickness (3/16-5/8-1/8) insulated units in High-Performance Low-E glass with Argon fill. Upgraded glass with higher shading co-efficients (for high sun locations) are listed below.

* U-value measures the insulating properties of glass. The lower the better.

**Shading coefficient and Solar Heat Gain Coefficient measure the amount of solar energy admitted through the glass. The lower the U-value, the lower the air-conditioning costs.

Upgraded (lower) shading coefficients may be desirable in high-sun locations to reduce heat gain. Note the reduction in Visible Llight Ratio that accompanies higher shading coefficients. (For comparison, note that clear insulated glass has a Visible Light Ratio of 80%).

STRUCTURAL

All lanterns are engineered to a minimum snow load of 30 lbs/sf and wind load of 90 mph. Local snow and wind load factors are requested at quote. Higher snow and wind load requirements can be accommodated. Larger sizes with side frames may require decorative tie-bars.

The owner is responsible for building code compliance and proper structural support for the lantern. Dead loads are provided at order.

WARRANTIES

10 year structural and 20 year insulated glass seal warranty are included. If installed by our crew, there is a one year installation workmanship warranty.

INSTALLATION

Unit is shipped disassembled unless otherwise noted.  Erection is by others unless otherwise noted. Unsupervised installation by homeowners is not recommended. We provide fully illustrated assembly instructions to your professional builder, with some sizes offering partial pre-asembly. Installation service is available for an estimate based on your location and site conditions and subject to our scheduling.

Most lanterns can be erected in two days or less. Longer for larger sizes or difficult locations.

COLOR OPTIONS

Standard skylight frame color is white inside and out. Custom colors are available per the Sherwin Williams standard color palatte. Custom colors add 3-4 weeks to production time.

Custom exterior OR interior color - add 20% to base price
Custom exterior AND interior color - add 30% to base price
Custom color on each side - add 40% to base price
